Ben Crane

Mr. Crane is the founder and head instructor at Rogue. With over 20 years experience in taekwondo (reaching the rank of 4th Dan Black Belt) since starting in 1998 and over 10 years of experience in kickboxing, no-gi grappling and MMA. Mr. Crane has dedicated his life towards martial arts excellence, always improving and learning new techniques. On top of this Mr. Crane has 14 years of competition experience in taekwondo at the provincial, national, and international levels winning and reaching the podium on many occasions in sparring and forms (patterns) before retiring due to injury.

Mr. Crane also has over 20 years of experience as an instructor starting young at the age of 10 as an assistant instructor for his instructor, Grand Master Gloria Hanlon. Over the years Mr. Crane worked his way up teaching and coaching people of all ages and experience levels before moving on to teach his own students. Since then Grand Master Gloria Hanlon has passed away and Mr. Crane looks to keep her memory alive through his teaching style that was formed by her guidance so many years ago.

Patrick O’Reilly

Mr. O’Reilly is a military veteran, having served 13 years with the royal Newfoundland regiment, and co-owner of Rogue with Mr. Crane. Mr. O’Reilly started training in martial arts at the age of 6 and has practiced a number of different styles including: Kung Fu, Shotokan Karate, Taekwondo, and Muay Thai. Having competed at the provincial level in taekwondo, he won the 2003 Newfoundland Provincial Championships for sparring.

In 2016 Mr. O’Reilly moved to Peru, South America and worked as a close protection agent. During that time he started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under master Carlos Da Costa, until returning to Newfoundland and teaching under Mr. Crane.

Master Steve Crane

Master Steve Crane was born and raised in St. John’s. He began Judo at the age of eight (reaching the rank of black belt) and trained in multiple styles of martial arts over the years such as Aikido and Shotokan karate.

When his son Ben was eight years old, they joined Taekwondo together under the instruction of Grand Master Gloria Hanlon; in 2002 they became one of the first parent-child duos to receive 1st Dan Black Belts at the same grading under A.I.M.A.A. (Action International Martial Arts Association). Since that time, Master Crane has continued to train and teach under Grand Master Hanlon, and now with his son Ben Crane. Master Crane has successfully competed at provincial, national and international levels and currently holds the rank of 6th Dan in taekwondo.

Assistant Instructors

Noah Mavin (1st Black recommended)

Mr. Mavin started training Martial Arts in 2016 and started learning under Mr. Crane in 2017. He started teaching as an assistant instructor in 2022 after earning the rank of red belt and continues to train in Taekwondo working toward his Black Belt. Outside of Taekwondo Noah enjoys playing video games and hanging out with his friends.

Scott Young (3rd Dan Black Belt)

Mr. Young started training in Taekwondo in 1998 under the late Grand Master Gloria Hanlon. And has trained alongside, Head Instructor, Ben Crane since 2001. Mr. Young started teaching as an assistant instructor under Mrs. Hanlon over 10 years ago and began teaching under Mr. Crane at the beginning of 2023.

Peyton Lawlor (1st Black recommended)

Miss Lawlor started training in martial arts in 2015 and began learning under Mr. Crane in 2017. She started teaching in 2021 after earning the rank of red belt and continues to train in Taekwondo, Kickboxing, and MMA. Outside of training in martial arts Peyton enjoys Drawing and spending time with her family and friends.

Eli Paulin (1st Dan Black Belt)

Mr. Paulin started training in martial arts in 2015 and began learning under Mr. Crane in 2017. He started teaching as an assistant instructor in 2019 and continues to train in Kickboxing and Taekwondo where he is getting ready to test for his Black Belt. In his free time Eli enjoys playing piano and playing video games.

Bradley Stanley (1st Dan Black Belt)

Mr. Stanley started training in martial arts in 2013 and began learning under Mr. Crane in 2017. He started teaching as an assistant instructor in 2019 and has since earned his Black Belt (in July of 2022) and continues training in Taekwondo and Kickboxing. Outside of training Bradley enjoys reading, playing video games, and learning about technology.

Owen Brake (1st Dan Black Belt)

Mr. Brake started training in martial arts in 2013 and began learning under Mr. Crane in 2017. He started teaching as an assistant instructor in 2019 and has since earned his Black Belt (in December of 2022) and continues training in Taekwondo and Kickboxing. In his free time Owen enjoys spending time with his friends and family watching sports.
